Elmendorf Christian Communal Training Institute

For nearly five centuries we have trained our own young people, teaching them practical skills along with the spiritual guidance they receive from living in a Christian communal setting. At Elmendorf in America (our parent community) this led to a formalisation of studies and vocational skills to meet the needs of our young people working in trades in a communal setting, at home and abroad.

Even though we have had numerous requests of students wishing to do our courses through correspondence, we have not seen our way clear with that. One cannot learn how to live and work in community on-line. One needs to be there, get up in the morning, take one's place in the material and spiritual life of the community all day long. Otherwise, all knowledge gained will only be of the head, or on paper.

Under our current arrangement we can only do apprenticeships, testing, and give certificates (including our final diploma) to those who live for a minimum of three years at Elmendorf in America, Rocky Cape in Tasmania (certain fields), and our affiliate communities overseas.

This brochure gives a general idea of what we teach in the spiritual fields. Trades for which we offer training include agriculture, livestock husbandry, welding and metal manufacturing, woodworking, cooking, food preservation and childcare.
